Construction on two facilities is now underway at the campus of Southwestern Christian University after the Board of Regents recently approved expansion projects affecting both the Department of Athletics and Creative Arts Department.
The renovation of an existing 2400-square-foot building located behind the IPHC headquarters to the west of the campus, as well as the addition of a wellness facility to the Pickens-Springer Gymnasium, began on Monday, July 1st.
The new music facility will be home to both large and small rehearsal rooms, practice rooms and faculty offices. This facility will fill a long-standing need for SCU music students and will assist in accommodating the future growth of the fine arts department.
The wellness center will be designed to meet the health and wellness needs of all students on campus, as well as faculty and staff. Expanding the Pickens-Springer Gymnasium will provide accommodation for cardio and health-training equipment. Additionally, a second-floor mezzanine will provide up to 300 additional bleacher seats for basketball and volleyball games, graduation/ commencement, and other events. At least two additional classrooms and faculty offices will also be incorporated into the expansion.
Check the website periodically for updates on construction of the new facilities.
