All full-time faculty appointments are on an academic year basis and individually designated as
nine (9), ten (10), or eleven (11) months. The designated period of the contract is determined
annually by the Provost & VPAA’s office. Contracts for full-time faculty are approved by the
President within the guidelines provided by Article 5.03 of the Bylaws of SCU. Because
department chairs carry additional administrative duties, their work load is reduced in
accordance with the faculty workload policy.
Upon approval of the annual budget by the Board of Regents, faculty contracts are issued and
must be signed and returned within 10 working days.
Reasons for non-renewal of contracts include: academic changes, need to strengthen credentials,
financial exigency, unsatisfactory performance, inability to work in harmony with the ideals,
theological principles and SCU’s Christian standards of conduct and appearance, and gross
Following the recommendations of the Provost & VPAA, all contracts may be prematurely
terminated by the President for justifiable cause as described by the contract. Included with the
notice is a written explanation of the specific reason(s) for termination. The holder of the
contract may appeal to the Executive Committee of the Board. He/she has the right to be heard
in such appeal. The decision of the SCU Board of Regents is binding on all parties concerned.
