Full-time Faculty, Department of Creative Arts

POSITION:  

Southwestern Christian University seeks a dynamic, engaging, visionary to fill a position of full-time creative arts faculty.  Candidates with a background in teaching piano, theory, and related courses are encouraged to apply.  Review of applications will begin immediately. This position is a nine-month reoccurring contract with flexible summer appointment.  Some travel as well as weekend work may be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Faculty support the department collaboration of academic courses and assessment, foster student relationships, recruitment of students, and advising.  The teaching load is twelve credit hours each semester. The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for the piano and keyboard instruction of music students. He or she will accompany the University Chorale for rehearsals and performances and rehearse with and accompany student performers in General Recitals and Juries. This person will also provide academic leadership in teaching, research, and Christian service. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Teach Theory classes, Form and Analysis, and Composition/Orchestration, and other classes as needed
  • Coordinate applied lessons for music majors enrolled in private piano lessons
  • Study the need and potential for providing class piano lessons
  • Administer and track piano proficiency progress for music majors
  • Assist in the completion of the Music Education report, develop promotional material for the program, and assist in the recruitment of students to the program
  • Maintaining office hours consistent with SCU policy
  • Submitting required documents and records in a timely manner
  • Actively contributing to university committees, department meetings, and campus activities
  • Providing constructive feedback for academic and professional development, and departmental curriculum review/development
  • Participating in professional development, including attending staff development trainings, workshops, seminars, and local, state, and national conferences
  • Developing and maintaining key relationships with affiliating institutions and agencies;
  • Supporting processes that increase the representation of diversity within the student body and departmental personnel; and

QUALIFICATIONS:  

Applicants who have advanced degrees in music will be preferred. Secondary teaching experience is helpful, as well as proven expertise in piano and keyboard performance; committed Christian who honors Pentecostalism and the Holiness tradition and who is supportive of the educational mission of the University and its heritage. The successful candidate will be an innovative person with the personnel management skills to build a shared vision that includes sensitivity to and competence with individuals of diverse backgrounds and cultures.

Compensation

Salary is $38,000 to $40,000 dependent on education and experience and based upon the established faculty salary schedule.
