POSITION TITLE: 

Full-time Faculty/Department Chair, Social and Behavioral Sciences

POSITION:  

Southwestern Christian University seeks a full-time faculty who will serve as Department Chair capable of teaching psychology and counseling courses. Position is nine‑month with flexible summer appointment.  Some travel as well as weekend work may be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Chair of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences oversees all administrative responsibilities for the department as well as participate in and provide academic leadership in teaching, research, and Christian service. The chair upholds the university's commitment to faculty governance and serves as the administrative representative of the department.  Additional responsibilities include:

  • Full teaching load that is based on the established faculty workload scale
  • Managing personnel-related activities, such as recruitment, new hire recommendations, and departmental performance evaluations;
  • Coordinating and managing the departmental budgeting processes, and overseeing departmental financial processes;
  • Providing leadership for academic and professional development, and departmental curriculum review/development;
  • Developing and maintaining key relationships with affiliating institutions and agencies;
  • Providing constructive feedback and assistance to faculty, staff, and students on professional development, performance, and projects;
  • Designing processes that increase the representation of diversity within the student body and departmental personnel; and
  • Exploring relationships with churches and para-church organizations that advance partnerships and recruiting efforts.   

QUALIFICATIONS:  

Applicants should have an earned doctorate with research and teaching experience in either counseling or counselor education as well as a current Professional Counselor License or Clinical Mental Health License.  Candidates should have academic credentials eligible for faculty appointment at the rank of full professor; record of significant accomplishments in research; committed Christian who honors Pentecostalism and the Holiness tradition and who is supportive of the educational mission of the University and its heritage; demonstrated experience in grant, contract, or project activities; and successful experiences in administration, graduate education, and faculty development as well as familiarity and contribution with the accreditation process. The successful candidate will be an innovative person with the personnel management skills to build a shared vision that includes sensitivity to and competence with individuals of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
