From humble beginnings to the fastest growing church in America
Over the years the Graduate School has enrolled many distinguished leaders however, none more renown than Chris Hodges, the pastor of Church of the Highlands in Birmingham Alabama. He planted Church of the Highlands on February 4, 2001 with a focus of reaching out to the community and an attendance of 350. This past Easter, 19,400 attended services at five different sites. Outreach Magazine - Special Edition 2008 listed Church of the Highlands as the fastest growing church in America.
Dean, Garnet E. Pike presented the Distinguished Leadership Award to Chris, a 2006 graduate, during the 2008 Church Planters School, held annually on the Highlands campus. Chris also serves as a guest professor for the Graduate School, teaching on leadership and small groups. His church has 80% of the attendees participating small groups. In all, there are over 800 small groups that are a vital part of the life of the church.
The Award is given annually to one who distinguishes himself in leadership and applies the principles and values of the Graduate School. Chris’s leadership and example sets a precedent for others to follow as they build the kingdom.
