Southwestern Christian University is pleased to announce that Hugh Morgan will be honored as the second annual Dan Beller Legacy Award recipient at the Feast of Ingathering on Saturday, November 10th at 7:30pm in the North Dorm Conference Center as part of the 2012 SCU Alumni and Friends Weekend.
The primary intention of the Dan Beller Legacy Award is to honor an individual whose ministry and service to the Kingdom of God has weaved itself into the inner workings of the entire population – the present-day disciples of ministry – at Southwestern Christian University for generations to come.
Hugh Morgan, author of the well-known news source known as ‘Hugh’s News,’ was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1932. He attended Emmanuel College in 1952-53 before receiving his Masters of Divinity degree from Asbury College in 1963 and his Doctorate of Divinity from Holmes Bible College in 1975. Morgan was called to serve as chaplain in the United State Air Force in 1965 and was named President of Southwestern College (Southwestern Christian University) in 1975 and held office there until 1977. He has pastored several churches along the east coast of the United States and has a long list of military services that he accumulated over the course of a 40-year span. He has been recognized as a ‘Most Outstanding Young Man’ by the National Kiwanis Club in 1968 and a ‘Most Outstanding Alumni’ by Emmanuel College in 1975. He was previously awarded the Corvin Heritage Award by SCU in 2005.
Mr. Morgan has served as president of the Ministers’ Association of Greater Birmingham, Alabama in 1979-80 and was a member of the World Missions Ministries Board of the IPHC from 1987-1995. He was selected as the Director of Chaplains Ministries and Ecclesiastical Endorser for the IPHC in 1998. It was also in 1998 that he began his Hugh’s News electronic which grew from an initial 13 subscribers to today’s 5000 readers with a website that reaches hundreds of others.
