Professor Hadley and Dr. Poteet.
Bethany – Professor Phylis Hadley has been nominated as the September Eagle of the Month at Southwestern Christian University. This award, presented by President Dr. Ed Huckeby, celebrates a student, faculty or staff member who goes above and beyond for SCU.
In early August, Hadley coordinated the “Transition ‘N’ Transformation” freshman orientation week. The week was filled with worship services, preparatory exams, service projects, small group activities, large group games, and many other events. During this week, more than one-hundred-fifty students obtained the information and inspiration necessary to succeed at SCU.
“Professor Hadley was instrumental in the success of Transition and Transformation,” said Joe Blackwell, Director of Admissions. “She has a passion for the students of SCU. Her dedication and commitment resulted in the overall success of TNT and that same passion is on display at the SCU Student Success Center on a daily basis.”
Hadley is the Director of academic and Student Success at Southwestern Christian University. Her focus is on monitoring the success of the students and providing the right resources to help each student succeed. Her roles include scheduling writing and math lab tutors, teaching classes, mentoring students, and advising those who are undecided about their educational path.
“If it has to do with student success, I am involved in it,” Hadley said.
During her three years at SCU, Hadley has undertaken many roles. One of her favorite memories is coaching the women’s basketball team as assistant coach. She now teaches in the Sports Management program with her mentor and friend, Dr. Jim Poteet.
“He is a great teacher and mentor,” Hadley said.
When asked what scripture has meant a lot to her lately, she replied Proverbs 16:9 “We make our plans but the Lord determines our steps.”
