Southwestern Christian University welcomed its new Provost, Dr. Connie Sjoberg on June 4. An award-winning educator, multi-dimensional author, and presenter, Sjoberg (pronounced Show-berg) comes to SCU from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, where she had been an instrumental leader in the University’s growth and development for the past 13 years.
She most recently served as the school’s General Education and Assessment Coordinator. While doing so, she continued to teach as an associate professor of psychology and assisted with the institution’s educational research and assessment strategy.
Sjoberg holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from ORU, and a Master's of Science in Counseling and Student Personnel from Oklahoma State University. She added a Doctorate Degree in Philosophy and Applied Behavior Studies from OSU.
She has 24 years of experience in public, private, two and four-year universities as teacher, counselor and administrator. In addition, she has served on the Higher Learning Commission Accreditation Committee for ORU for site visits in 2007 and 2012 while also assisting with the University Planning Council for planning and development for the University’s future.
Her husband, Don, is a licensed pilot and superintendent at Poteau Public Schools. They have one adult son, Nathan, who is a student at ORU.
The couple are professional musicians and often perform at churches and ministries around the region. They also enjoy travel and have made frequent trips to Europe for study.
