SCU Names New Vice-President
Southwestern Christian University announced today that its new vice president for University Advancement and Development is Joe Blackwell, who currently serves as the Director of Admissions for the university.
SCU’s vice president for University Advancement and Development is a senior-level administrator reporting directly to the president and is an active participant on the president’s leadership team.Blackwell will direct all of the university’s fundraising efforts and leads a division that includes development, university relations, alumni relations, and marketing.
“We were exceedingly impressed with what Joe Blackwell has done in a relative short time here at SCU as our Director of Admissions,” said SCU President Dr. Reggies Wenyika. “I think it speaks well of his ability as he has helped with the tremendous growth in our student enrollment since his arrival. With his experience and his expertise, Joe stood out and is certainly the right person to build our development and advancement programs to higher levels. I am extremely excited he is agreed to join us in our administrative team.”
Blackwell has been at the Bethany campus for two years and since that time, he has overseen a growth in traditional enrollment from 335 in the fall of 2012 to 435 in 2014, an jump of nearly 26%.
“I am very honored to have been selected for this position at SCU and look forward to working with the president, administration, faculty and staff, as well as the many supporters of this great university” Blackwell said.
Blackwell has led and-or organized several comprehensive campaigns while working for 20-plus years as a Director of Sales for AT&T. He has worked extensively with boards of trustees to create common visions and plans, and had oversight in the policies and procedures that guide the collection, distribution and reporting of each back to its shareholders.
A native of Oklahoma City, Blackwell earned his bachelor’s degree from Southern Nazarene University and is completing work for his master’s in ministry from Southwestern Christian University.
Blackwell and his wife, Dana, a teacher at Tuttle Elementary School, have been married 18years. They have two children, Blake and Shelby.
