SCU Presents Big Check to Local Elementary School

Representatives from Southwestern Christian University presented a check for $1,250 to Overholser Elementary School during a school-wide assembly Monday.

The money was raised during the university’s Soar High and Run 5K sponsored by the Kinesiology, Exercise and Physical Education (KEPE) Club. The race was held March 28 in Bethany, Okla., and had approximately 80 participants and 35 volunteers.

Members of the SCU Education Department including professors Melissa Cox, Kristen Gregory and Dr. Dana Owens-DeLong joined with KEPE Club members Jacobin Ainatsiferana and Alli Williams to present the check.

“The thanks go to all of our race participants, volunteers, community donors, and SCU as a whole for supporting the KEPE club students with their efforts from the very beginning which ultimately resulted in the ability to gift Overholser Elementary with a big check,” Gregory said. “I feel truly blessed to work for such a wonderful institution and for such supportive, optimistic and encouraging leaders.

“When I heard the roar of cheers and excitement from the super awesome Overholser students and staff when we announced the gift, my heart filled with joy and I am so grateful to have had an opportunity to bless this community and bring happiness and hope to them throughout.”

Overholser Elementary is a part of the Putnam City School District and is located in Bethany, Okla.

KEPE Club was founded by club president Hillary Bennett and faculty advisor Gregory in 2014. The club was started to give students the opportunity to encourage healthy living, develop team building and leadership skills, participate in career development and preparation, build and strengthen networking opportunities and provide hope to the local community.
