SCU Students to Present Suessical the Musical

Students at Southwestern Christian University Creative Arts department will take to center stage to present “Seussical the Musical” for three open-to-the-public performances beginning March 28 at Minchew Auditorium.

The play, directed by SCU instructor Dr. Molly Johnson, is magical musical extravaganza, that brings to life all of the favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo.

The musical has made generations of audiences laugh and cry as they follow Horton the Elephant on his adventures.  Faced with the challenge of having to guard an abandoned egg while also protecting his tiny friend Jojo from a world of naysayers and dangers, Horton endures ridicule, peril, kidnapping, and a trial.  Through all of Horton’s hardships, his friend Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him and “his kind and his powerful heart.”  Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community emerge triumphant.

A beautiful musical, the audience will be transported from the Jungle of Nool, to the Circus McGurkus, and the invisible world of the Whos in a production packed with the spirit of imagination.

“Seussical” will show at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 28 and at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 29. Tickets are available at the door. Cost is $5 for general admission. SCU students, staff and faculty are admitted free with ID. As well as children under 12.
