Victoria Woods, the Financial Diva, will deliver the commencement address for the 2015 graduating class of Southwestern Christian University on Saturday May 9.
Woods has more than 25 years experience as an investment advisor, business owner, community volunteer, philanthropist and State Commissioner on the Status of Women. She is the founder and visionary of the Financial District of Oklahoma.
As Chief Investment Advisor of ChappelWood Financial Services in Edmond, Okla., she expressed humility and thanks at being offered the opportunity to address the graduates.
“I am honored beyond words to have been asked to share such an important message,” Woods said. “A university as steeped in history and excellence in our community as Southwestern Christian had its pick of any individual to invite to give this year’s commencement address. That they selected me is humbling, to say the least.”
Dr. Reggies Wenyika, SCU President, said local leaders like Woods exemplify the type of person he wants his students to emulate. Past commencement speakers have included organizational leader Dan Roberts, well-known furniture store owner and business leader Bob Mills and Lieutenant Governor Todd Lamb.
In addition to her successful business and civic endeavors, Woods is the author of It’s All About the $Money, Honey! and hosts a weekly financial radio show on News Radio 1000 KTOK of the same name.
Her professional achievements include being selected as a White House Conference Delegate and a member of the President’s Advisory Board. She has been named the National Association of Women Business Owners “Best of the Best”, nominated for The Journal Record’s 50 Most Influential Women and has been a financial expert contributor on national television and radio networks and programs including Clear Channel Radio, iHeart Radio, Citadel Communications, the Today Show, FoxBusiness, ABC, NBC and CBS.
“The purpose of earning a college education goes beyond the degree,” Wenyika said. “When our students walk across that stage, we want them prepared for life. We want them to be business owners, civic leaders, philanthropists, collaborators, visionaries and witnesses to the power that giving God the praise and credit for their success has had on their lives. Victoria is a living testament to that model.”
Founded in 1946, Southwestern Christian University is private four-year university located in Bethany, OK with an enrollment of more than 800 students. The university offers more than 30 undergraduate degree programs.
