General Scholarship Policies

 Revised 5/12/2020

  1. Priority - Applications for scholarships will be given priority on a first come, first serve basis. Scholarships will be reviewed only on a budget availability basis.
  2. Semester Amount Limit - All institutional scholarships or combinations of institutional scholarships are limited to cost of attendance* less federal aid^, state aid**, and other non-institutional scholarships†.
  3. Full-time Enrollment - Students must be enrolled full-time with SCU (in a minimum of 12 credit hours for undergraduate students or 9 hours for graduate students) to receive institutional scholarships, except in cases where the student needs fewer than full-time hours to graduate. In that case, the scholarship will be prorated to hours enrolled.
  4. Probation Restriction - The student must not be on any form of probation± with the university (academic and behavior). Students on probation will be immediately ineligible for any institutional scholarship and will remain so as long as on probation. Once a student is no longer on probation, they may reapply for scholarships previously removed due to probation.
  5. GPA Requirement - Students must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA for all college course work to continue to receive any institutional scholarships (unless superseded by specific scholarship requirements). For transfer students, only hours transferred in and counting towards graduation requirements will be used in the calculation.
  6. Limited to One Degree - With the exception of Academic Scholarships, all scholarships will be considered awarded for four full years unless/until the student no longer qualifies for the scholarship. All scholarships will be limited to the completion of one degree of college level instruction (including hours transferred in and counted towards graduation requirements).
  7. Stacking Scholarships - Recruitment scholarships may only be stacked with an academic scholarshipBenefit scholarships, incentive scholarships, funded scholarships, and activity scholarships may be stacked with other scholarships or combination of scholarships based on funds availability and limited to cost of attendance* (unless superseded by specific scholarship requirements). See scholarship listing for details.
  8. Dropping and Withdrawing - When a student drops or withdraws from the University, scholarships will be reduced at a rate consistent with the tuition refund policy applicable to the student. Students dropping below full-time (12 hours for undergraduates and 9 hours for graduates) during the course of a semester will immediately become ineligible for scholarships for that semester (see above exception). Withdrawn courses are not considered drops and will not affect scholarship eligibility as a result.
  9. Cutoff Date for Changes - Once the midpoint of the semester has been reached, scholarship amounts will not be changed again for that semester except in the case of a calculation error on the part of the university. Classes added after the midpoint of the semester must be paid for by the student before the end of the semester according to university policy.
  10. FAFSA Requirement - All students applying for any type of financial aid at SCU (including institutional scholarships) who are eligible by U.S. federal law to file a FAFSA must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have it sent to SCU. The website is http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ and our school code is: 003180.
