Position Title: Faculty, Teacher Education - Secondary Education

 

Position:  

Southwestern Christian University invites applications for a full-time faculty member to serve in the Department of Education beginning in January 2019. The SCU Teacher Education program accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) in the state of Oklahoma. The ideal candidate will be an entrepreneurial academic leader who will bring a vision for continued development of the Department of Education in order to meet the growing need for teachers in Oklahoma and the surrounding region. This position is a reoccurring, nine-month faculty appointment with flexible summer options.  Some travel as well as weekend work may be required.

 

Responsibilities: 

Faculty support the department collaboration of academic courses and assessment, foster student relationships, recruitment of students, and advising.  The successful applicant will be expected to develop course syllabi and course materials that reflect the university’s accredited course descriptions and competencies as outlined by Southwestern Christian University, the state of Oklahoma, Higher Learning Commission, and CAEP.  Applicants should be committed to student success and using varied teaching techniques to engage students and provide them with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve the learning outcomes for courses taught.  Faculty within the Department of Education are expected to oversee the required accreditation reports for the Teacher Education program and ensure the ongoing assessments of the program are completed and reported.  The teaching load is twelve credit hours each semester.

 

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Implement policy and procedure to arrange clinical practice placements and collect clinical practice evaluations.
  • Collect data for key assessments and complete secondary program reports required by CEAP and OEQA to maintain program accreditation.
  • Establish and maintain a professional working relationship with the cooperating school and/or district. Maintain effective communication with the Cooperating Teacher and School District.
  • Act as a resource person to the Teacher Candidate by providing additional sources of information and by being available through phone or mandatory weekly email personal contact, and cooperatively deriving workable solutions if difficulties arise.
  • Provide information on the development and implementation of future professional plans.
  • Encourage responsibility and creativity in the student teaching experience.
  • Keep adequate records on the Teacher Candidate.
  • Provide knowledge about evaluation procedures.
  • Create and maintain a professional, friendly relationship with the Teacher Candidate and the Cooperating Teacher.Maintaining office hours consistent with SCU policy
  • Submitting required documents and records in a timely manner
  • Develop course syllabi, goals, objectives, and expectations
  • Teach in a variety of delivery formats such as face-to-face, online, and hybrid
  • Advise students related to their enrollment and student success
  • Conduct research and scholarly publication
  • Actively contribute to university committees, department meetings, and campus activities
  • Provide constructive feedback for student work, academic and professional development, and departmental curriculum review/development;
  • Participate in professional development, including attending staff development trainings, workshops, seminars, and local, state, and national conferences
  • Develop and maintaining key relationships with affiliating institutions and agencies; and
  • Support processes that increase the representation of diversity within the student body and departmental personnel

 

Required Qualifications:  

The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in education (ABD will be considered) and have significant experience as a certified K-12 teacher as well as experience with CAEP accreditation and national or state-level program review. Applicants must also be a committed Christian who honors Pentecostalism and the Wesleyan Holiness tradition and who is supportive of the educational mission of the University and its heritage.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the required qualifications, preferred candidates will have a minimum of three years of higher education leadership experience and demonstrated success in new program development and fostering growth of existing programs.  The successful candidate will be an energetic person with the personnel management skills to contribute toward the SCU mission with sensitivity to and competence with individuals of diverse backgrounds and cultures.

Compensation:

$38,000-40,000 

Salary is dependent on education and experience and based upon the established faculty salary schedule.
