Tutor U provides tutoring targeting specific subjects that focus on areas of the subject that present a more significant challenge to the student.  Current subjects supported are:

  • Composition I & II
  • General College Math
  • College Algebra
  • Accounting I & II
  • General Business Classes
  • Old Testament
  • New Testament

Tutor U also conducts student seminars on various subjects such as:

  • Goal Setting
  • Time Management
  • Stress
  • How to Study
  • Helpful Habits.

Tutor U will operate on the Bethany campus during the Fall and Spring semesters. Students will meet with a tutor for a 30-minute appointment.  Students will be limited to one appointment reservation per day but may spend additional time with a tutor after the appointment if no other students are waiting.

If the student is working on a particular writing assignment, the student will bring a hard copy of the assignment to the appointment. The student and the tutor will discuss the student's needs and writing issues, and the tutor will use the student's writing to illustrate concepts that need improvement.

The tutor will not "proofread" the student work, but will point out examples of errors and encourage the student to identify other instances of similar errors.  The tutor will also identify and praise areas of strength and growth in the student's work.

During an appointment, a tutor may identify student needs that are beyond the scope of Tutor U, such as psychological problems, family problems, financial problems or spiritual issues. As needed the tutor will refer these to the appropriate campus services.

Individual tutoring sessions are available by appointment only.  Students are welcome to drop-in on a first come first serve basis, however, tutor availability will not be guaranteed.   Contact CAPS at 405-789-7661 ext. 2293 or CAPS@swcu.edu for more information on tutor availability.
