Writing Support Referral Process

Any SCU Professor  may refer a student for Writing Support.  When referrring a student, the instructor will fill out a referral form (distrributed by the Tutor U) to identify issues needing improvement.  The student will then bring this referral form to the Center for Academic and Professional Success (CAPS) to set up an appointment to meet with a tutor,

An instructor may also require that a student take a rough draft of a paper to CAPS for help with revision.  In this case, the tutor will sign, and date the rough draft as proof that the student drafted the work and made the appropriate revisions.

Instructors in English Composition I are particularly encouraged to refer students who need writing remediation. By identifying and assisting these students in their first semester at SCU, Tutor U can help prevent students from dropping out, and can help them build the writing skills they need to succeed in their upper division courses.

Students do not need a referral to use Tutor U for writing support. They are encouraged to use this campus resources whenever it is scheduled to be open.
